My good friend, Kayla (who has been mentioned several times on this website) invited me to one of her “Artist’s Escapes” last year. Essentially it is a camping trip where art supplies are in abundance and creativity of all sort is encouraged. Kayla handed me a 5″x7″ piece of wood canvas, asking me to paint. I was immediately compelled to start painting what later became titled as Consumption.

Consumption

Short of grade school and D.I.Y.-home projects I had never really painted but the paint seemed to flow through my veins and through my fingertips and brush. I began with the burning, deep red and orange-yellow flames adding in the thick black smoke after, blotting the line between with my finger tips. I added the white mountainous region after and used a fine tip pen to indicate the skeletal remains of the scorched trees. Finally speckling the burning red embers drifting into the choking smoke.

I present: Consumption.
